Solar panels are devices for capturing the energy in sunlight. Solar photovoltaic panels contain arrays of solar cells that convert light into electricity. They are called solar after the sun or "Sol" because the sun is the most powerful source of the light available for use. The solar cells are sometimes called photovoltaic cells, photovoltaic meaning literally "light-electricity".

PowerFilm Solar panels are made using thin film solar panel technology and an industrial scale manufacturing process to produce low cost solar panels.

The Powerfilm 5 Watt Foldable Solar Charger (F15 – 300), the smallest of the Foldable solar chargers is ultra lightweight coming in at only 6 oz. The 5 Watt charger is so compact it can fit into a cargo pants pocket.

The Powerfilm 20 Watt Foldable Solar Charger (F15 – 1200) is the middle ground of the Foldable Solar chargers and weighs just under 1 lb. It produces 1.2 Amps at 15.4 Volts and folds up into a 10.5 in. x 6.5 in. rectangle.

The Powerfilm 30 Watt Foldable Solar Charger (F15 – 1800), folds into a rectangle that is less than 11 in. x 10 in. It produces 1.8 Amps at 15.4 Volts and can easily fit into a backpack for lightweight compact transportation.

The Powerfilm 60 Watt Foldable Solar Charger (F15 – 3600), the largest in the Foldable Solar chargers is very lightweight considering the power it produces. It weighs only 2.6 lbs and produces 3.6 Amps at 15.4 Volts.

Sharp Solar Modules are available in polycrystalline (80W, 123W, 125W and 167W) modules and monocrystalline modules (175W only). The 80W and 123W modules are a nominal 12V panel and are also available with a junction box termination at the rear, or with MC connectors. The larger 167W and 175W modules are only available with MC connectors and only in the 24V models.
There are many advantages to SHARP solar modules:
- Box section frame for extra module strength.
- High quality schotsky diodes used as bypass diodes.
- The tabbing that connects the cells of the module is soldered over the length entire of the cell and not "spot welded".
- The electrical connections on the cells are solder dipped not screen printed. Solder dipping provides a more reliable connection.
- Back sheet is made of PET. This provides an improved water and mechanical barrier.
- PET used material as the module backing sheet and silicon seal around the edges of the laminate helps to create a more weather proof module.
- Framing screws are countersunk.
- Terminal box (MC lead type) and junction box are fully sealed significantly reducing risk of water ingress.

SW 165/175 Mono
The Sunmodule heralds an innovative new module conceptfrom SolarWorld. The fully automated production process at the SolarWorld factories creates a module quality that is consistently high, which in turn will ensure high yields for the long term.
The glass is set deep into the module frame and they are firmly attached to each other by silicone that is applied with continuous precision. This guarantees exceptional rigidity for the entire module and stops any possible loosening of the frame as a result of strong outward forces in cases such as sliding of heavy snow. Tests carried outin accordance with IEC 61215, applying loads up to 5.4kN/m2, confirm that the module can withstand high loads such as heavy accumulations of snow and ice.
The patented, flat and compact junction box provides perfect protection against corrosion, as well as a capacity to rapidly dissipate any excess heatproviding lower operating temperature. Small Flexible Solar Panels
If the battery in your vehicle or boat is left without charge for a prolonged time it will become sulphated and useless. To keep the battery charged, it is best to use a 5 W solar panel to keep the battery in a fully charged and operational state.
Please note it usually takes 4-5 W of solar panel to keep an N70Z sized battery charged, a 1 or 2 W panel will not be enough. If there is a drain on the battery, such as an alarm, a larger panel may be required. For dimensions please see page 14.
